walking home

a walking performance over distance

march-december 2020

A walking performance over distance which invited 32 women (*those identifying as women) participants from Istanbul to share footsteps and a discussion on where it feels like home for them. While the woman was walking towards the place which she describes as “home” in Istanbul, I walked with her simultaneously in my city, connected via a phone call conversation. With the following questions: “If I ask you to walk me home, where would you take me? Does home mean feeling safe? What makes you feel at home? Is it where you live now or a different place? Or is it not even a place?" - we were searching together for the answer of what could be the meaning of “home” as we shared the footsteps.
